UAV Navigation in Depth: Helicopter High-Speed Operations with UAV Navigation

Unmanned aerial vehicles have proven to be an effective solution to intervene quickly in emergency situations. Relief work in natural disasters or the supply of medicines and blood are situations where time counts and speed is a crucial factor. In this field, rotary-wing or helicopter UASs are some of the most widely used platforms due to the reduced infrastructure they require in their operation, thanks to the hovering or fixed-point capability they confer. This maneuver is essential in rescue circumstances or infrastructure inspection.

Although rotary wings are more penalized than fixed wings when it comes to maximum speeds, their operational advantages make them ideal for certain types of missions. That is when a well-designed flight control system plays a decisive role in finding a compromise solution between operations in confined spaces and cruising flights at maximum platform speed.

Enabling the use of information from the ADS (Air Data System - Air Data Systems) allows the software control the speed more efficiently with respect to the wind and in this way to adjust the behavior of the platform and the rotor, optimizing the performance of the aircraft and thus reaching speeds above 130 km / h.

Our guidance, navigation and control system for rotary-wing platforms, such as helicopters, of any configuration (conventional, coaxial, tandem ...) is characterized by its search for efficiency, reduction of mechanical requirements and therefore the increase in autonomy thanks to its performance like human-crewed helicopters, away from sudden or not very fluid movements and not optimized. In the same way, the UAV Navigation system for helicopters enables advanced maritime operations in which a flight control capable of navigating with respect to mobile reference points such as ships or mobile platforms is required, essential in rescue or maritime surveillance tasks.
